To put pressure on elected officials and decision makers to send TXDot back to the drawing board to fix the structural and design problems of the current I-45 WITHOUT expanding the right of way or otherwise affecting the quality of life and business in these neighborhoods.
To inform the residents that live in adjoining neighborhoods about the potential negative effects on their health and quality of life if the I-45 Expansion is realized.
Environmental Injustice means that the burden of the problems of the NHHIP are going to fall on lower income and minority communities that will not be well served by the I-45 Expansion.
No matter what the particular issue with the NHHIP is (flooding, air quality, noise, neighborhood isolation, destruction of historic communities, residential displacement, business displacement, job loss, etc.) our answer is that the NHHIP will harm the communities of color and low income communities.
